Egidio Voltolina

the fishery owner

Pescheria Adriatica is one of the well-known fisheries established by Egidio Voltolina, who was born in a family with a fishing background. decoration, labeling, a vast variety of species, and packaging are the most distinct features that characterize this market from the other competitors.

Variety of species: Veneto has boasted a concentration of fish breeding equal to 66% of the Italian farming in the north Adriatic.

Veneto is host to extensive and intensive aquaculture, with particular reference to the Venice Lagoon and the Po delta, where the biggest production companies are concentrated. Also regarding mollusk rearing, Veneto has a strong position with its 154 plants. By far, the largest volume of captures is small pelagic fish: anchovy (49%) and sardines (11.4%) The main demersal species landed is mullet (3.0%) and sole (2.9%) A large part of mollusks catches is cuttlefish (4.4%), musky octopus (2.2%) and squid (1.2%). Importantly for Veneto, the bivalve mollusk accounts for (4.4%) of total catches landed. Crustacean landings are considerably smaller than in other maritime regions in Italy and consist essentially of mantis shrimp (2.4%).

Catches in Veneto totaled 25 362 tonnes in 2010 and include a number of species, with fish species accounting for 75.6% of the total catches and mollusks representing 20.3% of the catches.

Packaging

Packaging has always had a noticeable impact on minimizing post-harvest losses. There is a specific kind of packaging in this market that facilitates carrying during short distances for about 6 hours. This is an encouraging reason for customers to have a successful purchase.

Labeling

The purpose of labeling is to inform the consumer regarding the contents of the product. This information helps protect both consumers and prevents fraud, misrepresentation, and unfair competition.

Misbranded food

A food shall be deemed misbranded if …

  1. The labeling is false or misleading
  2. Offered for sale under another name
  3. It is an imitation of another food but does not contain the word “imitation” on the label.
  4. Inaccurate food weight such as low net or drained weights.

Why product labeling is a vital issue?

Because consumers rely on labels to clearly and accurately describe what’s being offered for sale. Moreover, product labeling provides important information that may affect consumers’ health such as a possible allergic reaction or specific nutritional needs.
